A Brief History Of Dragons -
By definition, a dragon is a fabulous monster which is represented as a gigantic reptile.
It has a lion's claws, the tail of a serpent, and a scaly skin. Some dragons have wings and some
do not. Modern day definition of a dragon is a large snake or serpent.
The classical dragon is a magnificent mythical monster usually represented as a huge crested
snake, with huge bat-like wing extensions growing from it's back and clawed limbs. The Dragon has
played an important part in the myths and religions of mankind. Although regarded as a sacred
guardian by many of the ancient cults the dragon has been more commonly symbolic of the principle
of evil. However, in the east, the dragon is the national symbol of China. Chinese and Japanese dragons
are thought to be sacred and very powerful.
Today, there are more than forty species of dragons. (tree-dwelling lizards in Southeast Countries)
These lizards carry the name Draco, which in Latin means dragon. The largest living dragons in
existence today is the Komodo dragon. They can grow 9 feet long. They have a lurid history of being
a menacing, vicious creature that has unknown behavior patterns. Actress Sharon Stone's husband was
the victim of these sporadic behavior patterns when a Komodo dragon crushed his toe while
privately touring a California zoo in 2001.
